The Pontifical Oriental Institute is a school of higher education that has as its special mission service to the Eastern Churches.



The Pontifical Oriental Institute was created by Pope Benedict XV in 1917 and entrusted to the Society of Jesus in 1922 by Pope Pius XI.



The Pontifical Oriental Institute offers licentiate and doctoral programs in Eastern Canon Law and Eastern Ecclesiastical Studies.

We would like to inform you that due to unforeseen reasons, the date of the inauguration of the new academic year of our Pontifical Institute, originally scheduled for Saturday, October 15 p.v. has been postponed to Tuesday, 18 October.

XII Symposium & Congress Syrian Arab Studies Christian Roma, 19 – 24 August 2016

We are happy to announce you can now download the Programs XII Symposium Syriacum 2016 & X Arabic-Christian Congress, which will take part on August 19 (August 19 to 24). Both programs are structured for macro areas of interest and according to a plan of interventions in the morning timetable and afternoon, starting at 09:00 every day and until 18:30.

At the conclusion of the XII Symposium Syriacum and the X Congress of Arabic-Christian Studies, the Scientific Committee at the Pontifical Oriental Institute announces the next headquarters of the work established by the shareholders:
